Getting ready for a trip to the great outdoors? Here’s how to make sure your camper or RV is in tip-top shape before heading out, and don’t worry we even threw in some camping preparation tips as well.

How should you clean a camper or RV?

  • Step 1: Start with a hose down
    • Start with a good spray down of the exterior. This will help remove dirt, dust and grime, and it will help you reduce the ultimate workload.
  • Step 2: Remove black streaks
    • Remove black streaks on the exterior by spraying an RV cleaner on them. Afterwards use a Viva® Signature Cloth™ paper towel to work on the stain, then rinse and strain the paper towel to repeat as necessary.
  • Step 3: Freshen up the kitchen
    • Start by cleaning upper cabinets and walls, that way you can easily vacuum or wipe away anything that falls down with a Viva® Multi-Surface™ paper towel. Next move on to the sink, countertop and oven to scrub away any residue. Finally, wipe out the inside of the fridge and freezer and leave a new box of baking soda to keep it smelling fresh.
  • Step 4: Dust out the living area
    • Give the living area a good clean dusting and wipe down using a Viva® Multi-Surface™ paper towel on the walls and windows. Make sure to vacuum underneath the seating area and then wipe down the table. Lastly, dust the TV and entertainment systems.
  • Step 5: Empty your fridge
    • Make sure to give your RV fridge a deep clean. First take out any old and forgotten items. Once empty, spray with your favorite cleaner and then give it a good wipe down with Viva® Multi-Surface™ paper towels. We recommend doing this before and after your trip!

How should you clean up before and during your camping trip?

  • Step 1: Clean your tent and backpack
    • The week before your camping or backpacking trip, thoroughly rid your tent and backpack of any crumbs and stains. We recommend fully setting up your tent and then cleaning it inside and out.
  • Step 2: Bring cleaning tools with you on your trip
    • A broom and dustpan can go a long way for the inside of the tent and picnic tabletops and surfaces. Bring scouring pads to clean tough pots and pans and Viva® Multi-Surface™ paper towels to help with cleaning up.
  • Step 3: Use a ground cloth to catch crumbs
    • Stop ants from marching in by spreading a picnic blanket, ground cloth, or fine mesh tarp under your cooking station and eating spots to catch any errant crumbs.
  • Step 4: Clean up before dark
    • Pack everything away safely before the sunset so you can get snuggled up into your sleeping bags instead of searching for things in the dark.
