From toothpaste speckling your bathroom mirror to grime on your sink and stains on your toilet, the bathroom is no stranger to cleaning.

Below, we’re sharing some easy and effective ways to help with cleaning your bathroom, leaving every surface sparkling and pristine.

Bathroom Cleaning Precautions

Your safety comes first, this is especially true when it comes to making your own cleaning solutions. Before you begin rolling up your sleeves, play it safe with these tips.

  1. Keep the room ventilated. This will help prevent you from inhaling any fumes and speed up the drying time for your surfaces.

  2. Use clean tools. Keep those pesky germs from spreading between areas by using clean tools. No one wants the action your toilet sees on the same counter where you brush your teeth.

  3. Protect your skin. Wearing gloves will act as a barrier keeping your skin safe from potentially drying or damaging cleaning solutions.

  4. Don’t slip and slide. When you’re cleaning your shower, you’re likely going to get your feet wet. This can be a dangerous time for accidents and injuries. Protect yourself when you’re cleaning the shower by placing your shower mat or another non-slip mat down.

  5. Mixing the wrong cleaning ingredients. An essential staple in your DIY cleaning kit, bleach is great for removing dirt and grime. But be careful of mixing it with vinegar or ammonia. The dangerous combination of bleach or ammonia mixed with vinegar can create a harmful poisonous chlorine gas.

How to Clean the Bathroom

It’s time to get down and dirty. Scrub those germs and bacteria away to leave your bathroom clean, sparkling and ready for your next refreshing shower or soak.

How to Clean Your Shower/Bathtub

One of the best ways to clean your bathroom is to use your simple yet effective all-purpose cleaning solution and bleach. Using an all-purpose cleaner will help you get rid of dirt, scrum and leftover product on your shower tiles while the bleach works hard to get rid of mold.

To begin, remove all your body care products from your shower.

Spray your shower or tub thoroughly with your all-purpose cleaning solution, including your shower door. Allow it to sit for about 15 minutes to loosen and remove any stains. While this is soaking you can apply bleach to any areas where mold has developed. Remember, it is important that your all-purpose solution doesn’t contain vinegar.

After 15 minutes, scrub the areas with mold using your scrub brush, toothbrush, or Viva ® paper towels. Once you’re done, rinse off your entire shower and doors to wash any soap scum, mold, and mildew down the drain. Then, use some Viva® Signature Cloth™ paper towels to wipe away any moisture on the doors to reveal a sparkling, clean surface.

Cleaning Your Toilet

Your toilet is a high-traffic part of your bathroom. Below, you’ll find a quick guide to effectively get your toilet sparkling clean and germ-free.

To begin, wear some gloves and flush your toilet to empty the bowl of all its contents. Apply your store-bought all-purpose cleaner to the toilet bowl, making sure to get as close to the rim to help remove any stains. If you have deep stains, you can let the solution set for around 30 minutes. Once it settles, scrub the stains with a toilet brush. Then, give the bowl another scrub and flush the remaining stains away.

Once you clean the toilet, apply some bleach to the seat and the rim underneath. Use some Viva® Multi-Surface Cloth Paper Towels Viva® Signature Cloth™ Paper Towels to clean the bleach off. These paper towels work to effectively clean all surfaces thanks to their cloth-like durability.,

How to Clean Your Vanity

As another high-traffic area, your bathroom sink sees and smells all the action. Now you can check out your morning bedhead and freshen your breath over a clean bathroom sink.

Before you begin, remove all your skincare and body care products from the vanity. Next, you want to consider the material your sink is made of. Whether you have a ceramic or porcelain, stainless steel or natural stone sink it's best to avoid using abrasive, scratchy cleaning tools. This can include steel wool, scrub brushes, and scouring pads. Using these could damage the surface of your sink. That’s why we recommend Viva® Signature Cloth™ for tasks like bathroom cleaning, because they’re durable and soft like cloth to tackle the toughest jobs – even on delicate surfaces.

To clean your bathroom sink, thoroughly spray it and the vanity with your all-purpose cleaner. Let it sit for a couple of minutes to loosen any dirt, grime or stubborn stains. Use Viva® Signature Cloth paper towels to wipe down your counter, faucet, and the sink.

Once you’re done, drain your sink and remove any trapped hairs. Spray with the disinfectant and let this sit for about 10 minutes before wiping it away.

How to Clean Your Bathroom Floors

Bathroom floors equally need attention. Just like with your bathroom sink, when you clean your bathroom floor, you’ll have to be careful not to use rough tools like steel wool or scouring pads as they can scratch and damage most surface tiles.

What you’ll need:

  • A broom or vacuum

  • A mop

  • Water

  • A bucket

  • Soft brush (optional)

Empty your bathroom of any mats and trash cans, then sweep or vacuum your floor to remove loose dirt. Apply an all-purpose cleaner to your bathroom floor liberally. If the floor is feeling especially mucky, let it soak for a few minutes.

Similar to the shower, if your grouting has become filled with dirt, apply some bleach and let it soak. After about 10 minutes, scrub off the grime and gunk with your scrub brush, toothbrush, or Viva paper towels.

Then, fill the bucket with some water to mop off all the cleaner and bleach solution. Pro tip: Make sure that your windows are open as you’re cleaning, especially since you will be using products like bleach..
